Deliveries
How long will I have to wait for my order to arrive?
We aim to fulfill all orders within 3 working days from confirmation of receipt of order. We will telephone you following receipt of your order to confirm the day the delivery will arrive
What time will my order be with me?
The carriers will not be held to delivering the flooring at a particular time of day, so you will need to be prepared to be at home for the duration of the day. The delivery will arrive on the specified day but the times will vary depending upon the drivers schedule.
I'm not at home that day, can you leave it outside?
If no one is available to receive the delivery on the specified day the goods will be returned to the depot and an additional charge will be made for re-delivery. ALL deliveries must be signed for.
What must I do when the goods are delivered?
Deliveries will be made on varying sized vehicles and it is the drivers responsibility to remove the materials from the vehicle. It is however your responsibility to take delivery of the goods at the kerbside and transport them into your home. It is therefore essential that you have adequate help at time of delivery. Please advise our transport co-ordinator of any special requirements regarding delivery at the time the delivery day is notified to you. PLEASE NOTE: Your order MUST be inspected on arrival and any damages must be noted and signed for as damaged (We cannot accept responsibility for goods not signed for as damaged on delivery).
Product Types
What is Laminate Flooring?
Laminate Flooring is made up of a high-density fibre board base, generally with a photograph of wood on top, coated with an acrylic lacquer. There is no real wood in a laminate board of this type. (Quick Step is of this type)
What is Wood Laminate Flooring?
Wood Laminate Flooring is made up of a high-density fibre board base usually finished with a very thin unsandable veneer of wood (e.g Par-ky, Kahrs Linnea), coated with an acrylic lacquer. This type of flooring cannot be sanded and resealed.
What is an engineered board ?
Engineered boards are also be known as real wood flooring. The boards vary in thickness and also vary the Hardwood wear layer that comprises the walking surface of the floor. Generally the flooring is made of three layers of wood with a Hardwood wear layer backed by two layers of softwood laid at right angles to each other to provide a stable floor that can be either adhered to a screeded or plywood surface or laid as a floating floor.
What is a Floating Floor?
A floating floor is a floor that is glued together or clicked together to provide a single unit of flooring that is laid onto an underlay so that it not fixed to the ground but floats on top of the underlay.
What is Solid Wood Flooring?
Solid wood flooring is made of solid hardwood. It comes in many forms (strip. plank, blocks, parquet battens and mosaic) and can be purchased pre-finished in either oil or urethane. Some solid flooring is laid unfinished (e.g. Blocks, Planks and strip) and may require sanding and sealing following the installation process. This method allows the purchaser to choose their own individual finish and is becoming more popular with customers who want something different
What is the difference between laminate and wood flooring?
Laminate flooring consists of synthetic backing with a high-pressure laminate surface with a photograph of wood. Laminate is not renewable and therefore has a short usable life span.
Wood flooring consists of wood backing with wood wear surface or solid wood. Wood flooring with proper care will last generations. Wood floors can be refinished, re-sanded, and re-coated to look like new again.
Can I install Hardwood Flooring in any room in my house?
Yes. there are products that will allow you to install hardwood flooring in any room in the house but care must be taken in choosing the right flooring product and also in ensuring the correct preparatory work on the sub-floor. Please see our page on using adhesive to fix solid wood flooring to concrete
Will the wooden floor change colour and age?
Exposure to the ultra-violet rays of the sun, whether direct or indirect will cause the flooring to change colour over a period of time. As a general rule the lighter coloured woods darken with time and the darker coloured woods tend to lighten. the changes in colour occur naturally and are therefore not covered by any guarantees or warranties. As time passes and the flooring is lived on it will attain a character of its own and this adds to the uniqueness that only these natural products can achieve.
Can I sand and re-varnish my wood flooring ?
Wood flooring can be sanded and refinished but we would recommend professional assistance is sought when considering this option. See information on sanding wood flooring
